Aluminum-zinc refers to an alloy made by mixing aluminum and zinc in different proportions. The resulting alloy exhibits different properties than pure aluminum or pure zinc. Aluminum-zinc alloys are mainly used in the production of corrosion-resistant coatings, especially steel. The aluminum-zinc coating is self-healing, and if the coating is damaged, the zinc in the alloy sacrifices corrosion to protect the underlying steel. The most commonly used aluminum-zinc alloy is called 55% aluminum-zinc alloy, which consists of approximately 55% aluminum, 43.5% zinc, and 1.5% silicon.
